Parents

Besides being the creators of the Not-So Secret Society, we’re parents. We deal with the same hurdles you do every day. We understand your stress because ours is so similar. We know that most days it would be easier to run a marathon rather than convincing your child to put on their shoes. Trust us, we get it.

Outside of the obvious, which is to foster a love of reading for young people, we also want to promote and encourage:

Embracing of Differences – the series will teach and stress tolerance and inclusion without ever feeling like a lesson.

Spirit of Adventure – the excitement of having good old-fashioned fun.

Sense of Collaboration – it’s essential to stress to young people that working with others is more rewarding and fulfilling.

A Willingness to Explore & Learn – having kids enjoy new experiences and what different subjects offer; this series proves that kids can learn everywhere and want to learn more.

Respect for Adults – the parents and adult characters are all important and unique and there is a two-way street of respect throughout the series.

We have set out to create a series that parents can enjoy with their children. That’s not always the easiest thing, but we really want you to have as much fun reading this as your kids do.

We’re also creating a series of activities for you and your kids to enjoy together. You will find the activities here on the website and they are free for you to use.

If you and your kids enjoy them — and we know they will — let us know. We are looking for feedback and testimonials that we can share with our growing community. Email us at info@teamns3.com. Besides letting us know, please tell your fellow parents. Nothing beats word-of-mouth and we would greatly appreciate you telling another parent about the NS3.

Educators

Working in education is the most rewarding job someone can have. It’s also terribly stressful. We understand! We both worked in education for more than ten years each, working in the K-12 environment and in universities.

Regardless of the level you’re working with - and each level presents its own set of challenges - good resources are important. Which is why we are creating a series of lesson plans, activities, and assessments you can use as an accompaniment to the original graphic novel.

Even though we spent many years working in education, we will be working with current educators to develop these supplemental materials, assuring that they are relevant and aligned to current standards.

Another important component to this project is creating a forum for educators to share their experiences using The Not-So Secret Society, the supplemental materials, and to promote lessons/ideas that they’ve created on their own.

Respect for Adults – the parents and adult characters are all important and unique and there is a two-way street of respect throughout the series.

We are so happy that you are interested in making The Not-So Secret Society a part of your curriculum!

The materials and forum will be available once the book is published in July 2017.
